Mission Statement

The mission of Mary’s Shelter of Reading, Pennsylvania is to provide residential and non-residential services for pregnant women and women and their newborns who are in need of a supportive environment because of a lack of suitable housing or favorable family relationships.

While caring for women in need, Mary’s Shelter prepares mothers with newborns for independent living and a vision of hope for the future.

Statement of Philosophy

Mary’s Shelter was founded as viable alternative to abortion by women and men who believe that every living person, including the unborn, are children of one Heavenly Father who creates all in his infinite goodness and wisdom.

Residents of Mary’s Shelter are expected to participate fully in the established program of communal living, prenatal health and parenting classes, professional and personal life-skills counseling, continuing education, and job training.
